What Is Private Duty Nursing and Who Needs It?
Private Duty Nursing (PDN) is one-on-one skilled nursing care given at home. We provide it for children who have serious and ongoing medical needs. Research shows that children with complex conditions thrive better in familiar home environments than in hospital settings.
Serving infants, children, and young adults across Alabama. We care for children facing conditions like premature birth with respiratory or feeding needs, tracheostomies, ventilator dependence, G-tube or J-tube feeding, TPN line management, neurological and genetic conditions, and children under the Technology Assisted (TA) Waiver Program.
A Care Team We Build Around Your Child
We do not just send a nurse to your door. We build an entire care team around your child. Every nurse we assign is carefully matched to fit your child’s medical needs and personality.
Our team includes experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Studies confirm that one-on-one nursing care leads to better health outcomes for medically complex children compared to standard clinical care. Our nurses are trained for complex care tasks, which include:
- Ventilator and tracheostomy care
- G-tube and complex medication management
- Complex feeding regimens including TPN Line Management
- 24/7 availability and dependable nurse scheduling
- Care coordination with doctors, therapists, hospitals, and schools
- Family education and in-home safety support

We know that hospital stays are hard on the whole family. They take children away from the people and places they love most. When children receive skilled nursing at home, families report less stress and stronger bonds with their care team.
With our nurses by your side, your child can go to school, attend therapy, and be present for family moments. Our nurses can even travel with your child to appointments or school when care plan approval is in place. Life does not have to stop just because your child has complex medical needs.
What Starting Care With Us Looks Like
Starting care with us is a clear and simple process. We move fast to make sure there are no gaps in your child’s care. Here is how we do it:
- The Initial Call – Your family contacts us, or a hospital or physician sends a referral.
- Care Coordination – Our care coordinators gather clinical information and confirm insurance or waiver coverage.
- Nurse Matching – We match your child with a nurse who has the right skills and the right personality.
- Home Setup and Training – Our clinical leadership trains the nurse on your child’s specific needs and equipment.
- Start of Care – We begin care quickly and stay connected with your family throughout.
We Stay With You Long After Care Begins
Subridge do not disappear once your child’s care starts. We stay close to your family for the long haul. Our ongoing support includes weekly check-ins with our nursing leadership team, real-time communication for any schedule changes, emergency backup coverage whenever possible, and continuous nurse education and quality assurance.
PDN services through us are fully covered by Medicaid under your child’s EPSDT benefits. There are no out-of-pocket costs for eligible families. Care can continue as long as your child meets medical necessity and remains under the age of 21.
